English Summer / Winter Camp is a charity educational program, organized twice a year by Project Management Institute – Gdańsk Branch (PMI Gdańsk Branch).
The first summer edition of this initiative took place in 2004, and in 2010 we started also with winter edition. A group of ca. 30 children aged 9-14 years, coming from Pomeranian region, has a chance to participate in each camp.
The English Camp initiative has been ongoing for more than 14 years. At that time, we organized more than 19 camps with over 700 children. We sincerely thank all our Partners and Sponsors, Volunteers, – without you we could not handle this challenge! Thank you and welcome again! 🙂

Through the ESC / EWC charity camps, create opportunities for children from Pomeranian Alternative Families and Children’s Homes to build a strong sense of self-esteem and ability to work together in a peer group that will allow them to develop their own passions, progress in their studies and bring them to equal employment in their future work lives.
Children are our future. Our goal is to make this future better by allowing them to broaden their knowledge and get to know the surrounding world a little bit, both just outside the window and the distant world of other cultures and nationalities.
Learning English and other useful skills is only the first step in their path, but all the great travels are just one step in the right direction. This great adventure, which is the summer and winter Camps – English Summer Camp and English Winter Camp, benefits all involved. Organizing volunteer camps gain valuable experience in project management methodology.

In addition, the key objectives of the program are:
- Motivating children from orphanages to learn and work on themselves
- Daily English lessons tailored to the needs and levels of Children
- Strengthening children in the belief that their hard work brings the expected results
- Project management training for volunteers supporting the project
- Scrum/Agile training for volunteers supporting the project
The camps are for children growing up in orphanages, foster families and families with low financial status. The main goal of the program is to enable children to attend English course, based on the highest quality materials and the best educational practices. Moreover, besides learning, tours, a variety of workshops, games and other activities, children have the opportunity to participate in activities that aim at:
- strengthening the faith in their own abilities,
- collaboration & co-operation in a group,
- eliminating stress,
- reducing the level of aggression,
- learning about other cultures,
- stimulation to explore new passions and interests.
All of the above has an objective to raise the children’s motivation to learn and work on themselves, as well as to reinforce their belief that their hard work pays off. We believe that this initiative will enable to provide children with an equal start in their future professional life.
The main objective of the program is to enable children bringing up the orphanages, foster families and in families with low financial status, participation in the English course. In addition to the daily, three – hour classes with qualified teachers, children participate in numerous workshops, games and activities with volunteers whose aim is to strengthen their self-confidence, improve the ability to cope with stress and lower level of aggression. Additionally, each camp has its own theme and children during camp work on the project, they also have basic project management workshops adjusted to their age.
Until now, there were a total of 20 editions (13 in summer and 7 in winter), during which we managed to achieve a lot. Our biggest success is that children participating in the English Camp are learning English with pleasure. Three times the main attraction of the camp was a charity fashion show, organized in collaboration with the brand Reserved Kids, last time there was a robot race, play performed in a theatre located in Sopot, building a recreation centre by using LEGO blocks and preparing a calendar using photos made during the camp.
The two-week camp is a work of ca. 50 volunteers, who about four months prior to the event start with the planning workshop to prepare for this project. Anyone, who wants to get involved, and additionally would like to learn more about project management in practice, can be the volunteer.
