Everything that is good ends sometime… So, unfortunately, the English Summer Camp 2018 officially came to an end! The official ceremony was the only proper culmination of two weeks full of fun combined with learning!
Volunteers were busy from the Sunday morning and prepared everything necessary to celebrate the last day of the camp! Although the sun did not give a moment’s respite during the two weeks of Camp, that day the sky showed sorrow and sadness at the end of the adventure. However, it did not spoil our plans – we are not from sugar (although the camp team consists only of the sweetest children!) 🙂
Ceremony – start time!
The theme of the camp was SPORT! Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that the main task was to take part in a competition! The event took place in Ogniwo Sopot, thanks to the kindness of the rugby team from Ekstraliga. We started from the rugby tournament, then we were facing obstacles run and the relay race! As it was a professional competition, there was also entertainment during breaks. Our great Black Tigers were the highlight! 🙂 We could not have better cheerleaders! After the game, it was the turn for thanks, diplomas and … food! A delicious grill is what perfectly filled the bellies of the players after intense competition.
Thank you for being with us, thank you for doing something good for this thirty children together. There will be time for further thanks, now we would like to express our appreciation to Kasia Sempołowicz-Lipska, PM of the camp. Thanks to her huge work and dedication, we managed to organize this amazing event!
In the meantime … We encourage you to follow our facebook profile! There you will find more photos from the ceremony and videos. We still have several surprises for English Camp friends 🙂
Another English Summer Camp in a year! Stay tuned! 🙂
After an intense weekend it was time to start second week of ESC2018. On Monday we decided to rest. But don’t think were sitting doing nothing!! We all think that the best rest is an active rest! So to start the second week of ESC2018 we had a rugby game (We are so proud – in our group we have golden medalist of rugby tournament – Memorial of Edward Hodura!), football match, and there was also swimming in the lake! During the English classes children learned about Armenia, home country of one of ours lecturer. At the end of the day, the most brave once could have tried at karaoke. Believe us, we have real talents at the camp!
On Tuesday after morning warm up we started our trip. English Summer Camps have been held in different parts of Kashubia region for many years. And as you know, people from this part of Poland care about their cultural heritage. The perfect place to meet this is Muzeum – Kaszubski Park Etnograficzny in Wdzydze Kiszewskie. We could try walking on stilts, learn how to write with a real feather and try to speak in Kashubian language 🙂
Who has visited us this time?
The second week of ESC2018 would not be great as it was without our guests. This time we had a pleasure to meet with layers from Wybrzeże Gdańsk Piłka Ręczna! There was a moment for a warm up, then the game. But what a game! None of the teams were sure of victory, and our children turned out to be worthy partners for the boys from Wybrzeze team! After the game, there was a time for rest and… signing autographs! In the evening our children presented their talents during karaoke contest. If you want to see more please visit our Facebook profile.
In Poland, the sea and mountains are far from each other, but it was not an obstacle for us to try climbing in Szarlota. By the way, climbing match perfectly the topic of this year’s English Summer Camp, which is why we had a pleasure to meet with the representatives of Klub Wysokogórski Trójmiasto. Professional climbing equipment has made a great impression on our children, but climbing the rope was even more excited!
We have already mentioned that by participating at the English Summer Camp, we want to teach children not only language and project management, but also to be a conscious and responsible man. This time this mission has been accomplished with help of a representative of SKN Medycyny Ratunkowej GUMed! First-Aid workshops or using AED proved to be good and very useful fun!
Second week of ESC2018 is coming to an end…
So our stay in Szarlota was slowly coming to an end… But still our friends are visiting us – this time it was WNS Polska! There was a lot of creative work and then of course – lake!!!!!. The effects of this day were to be presented during the Closing Ceremony! If you want to see more please visit our Facebook profile. We already miss Szarlota….
First days of ESC 2018
The first week of English Summer Camp, full of activities and fun, behind us! So it’s time, to sum up this great period, and there’s a lot to describe 🙂
It started very actively, after fast integration, we’ve played team games and great excursions by a reliable Survival Adventure Squad team. The first day has already been described in detail so we will not describe it in detail, we invite you to read the article HERE.
The second day of the camp’s adventure was dedicated to project management thread. Thanks to Design Thinking workshops organized by Ewa Kusio and led by Kasia and Damian, children were able to combine fun with the profession of Project Manager in an interesting and accessible way. Their task was to design the perfect cup, you could feel a competition in the air! A little bit later, in the evening, Zielona Szarlota was visited by Ada, who introduced children to the secrets of PM.
One common feature of all the days of the camp so far (apart from the great humor of the participants 😉) was the game called Mafia. Everyone has got into this card game and it became an inseparable ritual accompanying us to this day. One of the kids, Łukasz, turned out to be an outstanding leader of the game, who perfectly introduced us to the climate and built proper tension, a perfect speaker!
Once upon a time in a fantasy land, there was a terrible volcano eruption! Lava streams and hailstones made a great Rainbow Bridge break into tiny pieces. Fortunately, not all is lost! The Magic Dwarfs asked for help from the Sleep Baron, who, along with the helpers from #ESC2018, went to search for scattered parts of the bridge.
We spent another two days at the camp in such a climate. The plot sounds as if it were taken out of the bestselling fantasy book! All thanks to the extraordinary people from the Projekt: Snem Pisane, who together with Creative Sight Studio and LUMOS Agencja Artystyczna provided us with a lot of excitement while creating this wonderful universe. Searching for treasures in the forest, bidding for mysterious boxes, flea market, and board games – there was no time for boredom!
One day we were visited by a group of extraordinary people from Metsa Group SSC, they have been with us for many years and every year they prepare new attractions for children. This time it was the construction of kites. It was a real showpiece of creativity and technical skills, which resulted in great, colorful constructions flying through the sky! Finally, our guests organized a game in which children faced rebukes, riddles, Sudoku and other puzzles!
English Summer Camp is not only about teaching English, project work and fun. It is also an opportunity to show children that they are also responsible for the world around us. For many years, AURAEKO company, which is dedicated to the recovery of electronic equipment, has been helping us with this. What do you do with an outdated smartphone? Can a broken refrigerator just throw away? For such questions, children respond during workshops. We believe that together with the children this knowledge will go into a world where it will be less electronic wastes from year to year! 😃
Here comes the weekend!
After a week, everyone’s favorite part of the week came, by that we obviously mean a weekend! But you shouldn’t be worried, we are not complacent. On Friday, Piotr Bucki explained to the children what to do to create thrilling stories. We also had the opportunity to play Kubba, as well as threatening Viking Chess! Ewa continued to learn how to manage projects through Design Thinking. During the weekend, our children had a huge variety of different exercises, we have prepared a variety of activities such as karate lessons or learning how to tie sailing knots. Outdoor activities were still on run, but it’s too obvious to even talk about it ;).
As you can easily see, people in the camp are not vain and they struggle with various adventures day by day. In this place, we would like to invite you to visit our Facebook page, where we post updated information about the course. Now it’s time for us to go enjoy ourselves during English Summer Camp 2018!
Companies support for ESC2018!!
It is high time to introduce you our partners and sponsors from companies. Thanks to their support children can take part in a lot of activities during their two-week stay at English Summer Camp 2018. We would like to thank our friends for their support and we hope that we will organize together oncoming editions 🙂
So let us give you a brief presentation of our sponsors:
BIC company is the world leader in stationery that every young and old has known since school. Their pens were used probably during all English Camp editions.
Our next partner, Staples Solutions is a producer of office supplies. It is the leading provider of workplace products, services and solutions to small, mid-sized, and large businesses in Europe.
Art classes are one on the main program points of all English Camps and would not be possible without the support of St. Majewski, as it is the biggest producer and distributor of school supplies in the Polish market.
The English Camp is not only fun, artistic or creative activities. We would also like to teach children the responsibility for our environment. In this case we can rely on our long-time partner, AURAEKO. It is the organization supporting recycling of electronic and electrical equipment. With their support we can teach children what to do if their electronic equipment will broke down.
The characteristic points of the English Summer Camps are outdoor activities. Our main goal is to do our best to take care of children. Especially according to this year’s sunny weather, we have to protect them from sunburn. It is possible with the support of Bielenda company, producer of natural cosmetics for face and body, which provided sunscreens for children.
We would like to thank all our sponsors and partners!! With your help we can bring smiles on children’s faces!!!
If you are wondering how children are spending their time in Zielona Szarlota? What workshops they attended? Visit our webpage where we will soon show you how they spent their first few days of ESC2018. To learn more about current news visit our facebook profile.
Have you ever wondered who the honorary patrons of ESC 2018 are?
Well, English Summer Camp 2018 is proud to be covered by many patrons of the local authorities. We are grateful that so many great people are kind to us!
The honorary patron of the current edition of the Camp is Mr. Grzegorz Piechowski, the Mayor of the Kościerzyna community. It is in Szarlota near Kościerzyna that our pupils will spend the next two weeks. Once again, thank you for letting our children stay in an ideal holiday home near Lake Osuszyno. Undoubtedly, a volleyball court, basket for playing basketball or a designated square for bonfire will make time even to the biggest troublemakers! 🙂
What’s more – we are pleased to inform you that honorary patrons are also Presidents of the City of Gdańsk and City of Sopot – Mr. Paweł Adamowicz and Mr. Jacek Karnowski! It is here, in the Tri-City, that the idea of organizing a colony for children was born. We combine play with science. Support for our activities means a lot to us and adds a lot of energy to action!
Also, the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, Mr. Mieczysław Struk and the Governor of Pomerania, Mr. Dariusz Drelich, support our camp! Thank you for supporting the initiative by the highest authorities of our beautiful province!
Honorary patrons – Thank you!
All of the above and each one separately. On our part, we will do our best to make our language camp better and better from year to year. We hope for fruitful cooperation also in next editions! Who knows, maybe thanks to you, we will be able to encourage more cities to become the patron of both English Summer Camp and English Winter Camp! During the course of 14 years of uninterrupted activity, over 2,000 children from Pomeranian Foster Families and Children’s Homes used the English Camp camps. We are glad that we have found patrons, and thus we can confidently say – partners who like us like to help.
Over the next days, we will reveal the other patrons and sponsors of the camp. If, however, you are already interested – we invite you to the Facebook profile! It’s a great way to keep track of camp life! Helping is cool! 🙂
First day of English Summer Camp 2018
In a healthy body, healthy mind
Despite the hot days, volunteers of the Gdańsk department of PMI are not dilly-dalling! Sending emails to all parts of the world, writing posts, meetings, talks. . . In all this we do not forget to collect funds to organize the ESC. The latter was directed by the “Events” team, led by Judyta and supported by Bayer, who organized the Third Charity Football Tournament!
Tournament – representations
The match took place on Friday, June 8th. Representatives of companies stood opposite each other: Ensono, Lufthansa, Staples, State Street and thyssenkrupp. After a fierce competition, players from Staples won! Congratulations to the winners, but also to all the other teams! However, the match was not the only attraction of the day. A lottery, a barbecue, artistic performances – all this took place on the pitch right next to the football struggles. The weather was favorable for us, so everyone left the pitch with a smile.
The whole tournament would not have been possible without our partners: the DANOS music band and the LOBSTER restaurant.
Next year’s match – who knows, maybe with an extended line-up?
Since the middle of April our brave volunteers ar einvolved in preparations to next, fifteenth edition of English Summer Camp! Divided into five teams, they are doing everything to make safe, eventful, but first of all – fruitful stay for children in our Camp. This year our children will be hosted again in “Zielona Szarlota” resort in Szarlota near Kościerzyna. All of this is supervised by Kasia – Project Manager of this edition.
